Nutrition and The Kitchen

About this Course

Nutrition is the intake of food, considered in relation to the body’s dietary needs. Good nutrition – an adequate, well balanced diet combined with regular physical activity – is a cornerstone of good health. Poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity. The Kitchen plays a huge role in achieving a good nutrition.

Nutrition refers to the act or process by which organisms whether plant or animals absorb into their systems their proper food which help to sustain their existence. This proper food contains substances called nutrients which are necessary for building and repairing worn out tissues, shielding man from diseases, supplying heat and energy to the body and for the effective working of the whole body systems. The nutrients fall into six categories namely – proteins, carbohydrates, fats and oil, mineral salts, vitamins and water.

The kitchen is the centre of all food preparation and therefore should be well equipped with respect to the needs and budget of the family. It is often not possible though to have a perfect kitchen but it is quite possible to make your kitchen a convenient place to work.
